When i was finally getting my truck on to the road, it took quite a while to get enough air out of the clutch hydraulics to get it driveable. I bled it for hours on end and got it to the point where it was driveable. After a couple months, shift quality got worse so i tried bleeding it again, and now it's even worse and will not get into 2nd gear or reverse without gringing, with the truck running. I have tried all of the suggested ways of bleeding without the use of a reverse bleeding pump. I'm thinking eaiter the slave or master is shot and letting air in, or i just cannot get the air out. Trying the pumping method, we pump it up about 10 times, then hold it to the floor and crack the bleeder screw. Upon closing the screw, then releasing the pedal i always though the pedal should pop back up, it does not. The master and slave are less than 2 years old, the line is brand new. It doesn't seem to be loosing fluid, and it seems to get worse as i drive the truck. Any ideas?
I put a rubber hose on the tip of the bleeder, and put the other end in a jar to collect fluid. Cracked the bleeder open and kept the master topped off. Let the fluid run for a little while and then shut the bleeder and finish up. I've bled my F-150 twice, only by gravity bleeding, and it worked perfectly both times. I didn't have to pump or do any other bleeding procedure. See if that works, if that doesn't work...something else is wrong.
Take the little rubber plug off the bellhousing and peak inside with a mirror and flashlight and see if you can see any leaks in the slave cylinder.
My F-250 won't completely bleed either, but mine stays constant. Since yours changes, it could be the master cylinder or a leak in the system.
I have a wooshing sound when i pump the master, leading me to believe it's bad, i'm gonna get a new master from ford tomorrow (i have a pepboys special on it now). I gravity bled about a gallon of brake fluid through the thing with no luck. Better not be the slave, the NP205 and ZF aren't all that light! My friend has a power bleeder were gonna try on it.
