I thought I would post this on this board. I have it on the wiring / electrical forum, but there is not a lot of traffic there.
I'm interested in the Compass/auto dimming mirror for my 2005 F250 Supercrew. Does anyone know if it is plug and play or will I need to get a harness to install. Should I have the dealer do the install? Does the mirror give outside temp?
I do not know about the wiring but my '05 already displays the direction and temp. The direction is next to the odometer and the temp is displayed on the HVAC panel. It might be that if you add the dimming mirror, you could possibly have the readouts in the factory location instead of on the mirror.
I put the Gentex auto dimming mirror w/ temp., compass, and map lights in in my 250 scab. There was no harness present for power and such. You will have to run the thermocouple out to the grill so that will mean drilling the firewall and inserting a grommet. I took the switched power off a pink on the back of the fuse panel so it is on the delayed accessory relay. The constant I took off something I had run in from the battery but there are plenty of constants around. Its not 20 minute job but its not the worst thing either.
