In most cases the F150 is slower than a similar truck from another manufacturer and it will weigh more to. Is it so slow that it is unsafe? HECK NO. Is quieter and have better ergonomics? YES.
If all you care about is which truck has the best et get her a SRT-10. If you want her to be safe, comfortable and happy, buy the F150.
I though the whole purpose behind these forums was to discuss, debate and dispell ideas someone may have about an issue, and to share ideas and concerns. Well, your concerns are noted about the straightline speed "performance" of the F-150.
It seems to me that you feel that if someone doesn't agree with you then they aren't allowed to post in a topic you have posted in. That's BS!!! We can agree to disagree on this topic, but I will post my opinion in any thread I see fit, and so will everyone else on this website.
Well said and thanks for saying it.
I completely agree with you.
Man why is everyone sooo fascinated with speed? What is the big deal? It's cool to be able to haul butt when you wanna, but who cares. It's like comparing superman to the flash, at least superman can fly and lift heavy objects and has a cool x-ray vision!
Well actually, nevermind because superman is also fast as hell, but I think supermans quarter mile time was .009 seconds and The flash's was .007 1/2 seconds.
If you don't care about straight line performance, don't post in a thread about straight line performance. It seems to me that you're you're getting offended, don't take it personal, you didn't design it. Or maybe you're defending it because you're stuck on brand loyalty. Sucker. Are you the same guy that posted in my "how to do burnouts" thread trying to argue about my decision making process instead of the actual subject?
Coaster, I've enjoyed this thread but your getting a little on the obnoxious side, or maybe arrogant. As for speed, since this is a pissing contest, I've done approx. 155 in a nicely modifed 88 Mustang GT and have done the 1/4 mile in 11.78 seconds in a heavily modified 73 Mustang Mach1. Does this make me a speed expert, no?
But i can tell you why people are getting defensive. We bought F150's for a reason, some for looks, some for power (not the same as speed), some for brand loyalty. No matter what the reason, you are insulting the product we, and I assume YOU, purchased. For the record, the Titan is an ugly truck with HORRIBLE durability of it's interior and exterior. Some of us may think the performance of the F150 5.4L is good. And sorry pal, but you must consider what it's built for when considering how it moves in general. Just my 2 cents, I don't want change.
If you don't care about straight line performance, don't post in a thread about straight line performance. ?
I don't care about brain surgery either but if I was reading a forum and found something interesting I could post if I wanted to. THAT'S WHAT THERE ARE FOR.
Don't tell me or anyone elso where and where not to post on this or any other forum.
That's why we have a moderator to keep things from getting out of hand.
And by the way, I don't need to defend my F150. I perfectly satisfied with it and that's all that matters to me!!!!!!
Well, I've personally driven 148mph, whupdiddydoo. Cars were much faster in '72 than '80. Late 70s, early 80s, we saw our car makers detuning their engines to be intentionally SLOWER and more efficient. It's not as if they were as fast as the then current technology allowed. Everything was slow because of the cause and effect of the oil embargo. But people justified it with, "well, at least I won't go broke paying for gas." Keep in mind, in 1981, there weren't just a bunch of 81 vehicles on the road. They shared the road with lots of used cars in stock trim capable beating the pants of any of the 81 "sports" cars. The european manufacturers were also spanking us in '81 at the same price tag. That's the same era the Japanese caught us with our pants down and started taking from our market share with their own concoctions.
I don't care what the 4.2L and the economy truck motor options are capable of hp wise, that shouldn't be the consideration here. People buying those then complaining about power and not having bolton superchargers available just don't make any sense. Saying my fullsize V6 pickup is faster than your fullsize V6 pickup doesn't mean much either. I think if Ford offered a stronger powerplant, it would sell like hotcakes, doesn't need to be s/c, but I think we'll be seeing Ford do some tweaking done to the current 24V to keep up with the Joneses.
Are mustang cobra owners excusing the fact that their cars are slower than the C5 Vette because theirs are cheaper? Maybe, but at the end of the day, excuses don't bring home the trophy. If performance isn't important to you, don't post in performance threads.
To anyone reading, I do have to point out once again SPEED is not what anyone is talking about. All these trucks will go to very high speeds, and no one will ever use it.
We are talking about acceleration, thus quarter mile speeds.
Not handling (the F-150 wins the handling hands down).
Just acceleration with the common model.
Or to be more precise, just comparisons of the model CentralCoaster says he has vs. everything else he would have preferred to buy.
But that doesn't matter.
Read CentralCoasters's posts. All of them.
There ain't much he likes about the F-150 from his first post to his most recent. All arguments are against the F-150, and many rude statments about other users.
Oh, and CentralCoaster, my remarks on speeds were on cars that went very fast in unusual body styles, a response to your silly remark about a Denali beating a Vette.
If you mess with anything it can beat any 'non-messed with' vehicle. You didn't understand my point.
Though I suspect that at 25 you probably know everything.
At 54, having owned well over a 100 cars, including quarter mile cars, (Desert Rat, Desert Rat 2, Financial Upset) rally cars (64 TR4, 65 XKE), and pit crewed on a number of quarter milers and Bonnie racers plus also worked in the automotive field something over 30 years, I'm still learning...
