propane injection again.....

ok im going back and forth between a mild injector and propane again.....i ran across the systems by msd and sct. im liking the msd system much more due to all the propietary controls and safetys it has. anybody have and experiances with this system? i just need a little kick in the hp for climbing the long hills so i would be fairly mild with mine. i just dont want to go back to the diesel guzzling rear tire shredding finiky truck i had before but want some more hp again.

Which truck you talking about??

I contemplated propane for a long time, even bought a kit, that never showed....

anyway I talked myself out of it cuz stage II's have been proven to make over 400 RWHP, and still get decent milage, I don't remember what you had for injectors, but i thought you had some huge customs at one point right??? maybe that was why it was so finiky???

I dont think your gunna get more HP and not have a tire shedding truck, thats like getting a chip for the milage.

I say get some different injectors, ya got water to don't ya???

i get 10 towing/ city and 15ish empty on hwy with my s2's. Ive never ran propane but to me the cons out weigh the pros. IMO go with injectors they will be safer than pane.

Just wondering what cons you are talking about.

I have run propane for some time and have no problems. Unlike injectors my EGTs with propane are very comparable to without. I generate more HP when I NEED it, cause the propane comes on at a preset boost and ramps up from there. I get 15 mpg in town and 17 to 18 hwy when towing I get 10 to 12 depending on terrain.

Propane is not like Nitrous. It doesnt work my making the burn more violent, all it does is help maximize the efficiency of the burn so you use 90 to 95% of the injected fuel instead of 70%

Do what you want but if you opt for injectors do it for the right reason not because someone told you Propane wasnt safe and be prepared for the EGTs that go with more fuel. That means installing an intercooler, not easy on OBS trucks, and/or water injection to help keep heat down.
Depending on the injectors you will need a new HPOP and a few other pricey bits and pieces.

Propane is safe when used in moderation, Luck, Jake and myself all want HP, and alot of it, so if we were to use it for what we want, it would be disasterous.

propane has a lower flash point then #2, meaning it ignites at a lower temp then atomized #2, so.. as the piston is coming up on the compression stroke, it is making heat, and being that the propane is already in the cylinder, it too is being compressed and heated, then all of a sudden boom, the propane ignites, prior to TDC, and that does wonders on your Cylinder pressures, now mind you that at the "safe" leval it will take a LONG time for the odd cylinder pressure spikes to do any damage, but thats it, it is still doin damage. larger injectors still have the same pulsewidth/timing, so the CP's are a lil more controlable.

barebackjack,

We have been selling the MSD Digital Propane systems ofr a while now and so far they have been excellent. They have more safery features and more internal computer software to adjust the system than anyone, heck they are the ONLY propane system that has it's own ECM to watch propane temp, boost, throttle position etc etc. There is even a data loggin system to read what it happening and when that allows you to adjust based on the output info!

Is the MSD digital system vapor phase or liquid phase?

VAPOR only, if you go liquid you can potentially have some serious problems real quick! That's why they have a monitor function to watch the temp of the propane, if it's below 0 degrees it will be liquid and the system will NOT allow it to be injected.

Then why does the MSD system require a liquid tank????
No system, whether it be vapor or liquid actually injects liquid propane into the engine. In a liquid system, a vaporizer is utilized at the point of injection to turn it into vapor. Propane wil vaporize down to 44-below. A liquid system such as MSD, ATS and Bully Dog, tap into coolant lines to continually heat the propane to a constant temperature.

As long as the propane is below its L.E.L. (lower explosive limit) it won't burn, on its own. If you were to increase the propane flow high enough, ~10-20% you start getting close to detonation.

i dont have water inj, kinda afraid of it. i have an ic but its bypassed right now. i didnt like how much lag i had with the stock turbo back on and i still have to make a custom ypipe to fit the 3"plenums. my injectors need to come out for to get worked through and orings so i think im just gonna get more some more #2 flowing.
