I have an 04 F-250 and i've recently been looking into doing some tranny work, and i was looking at buying a full suncoast transmission, but i just recently talked to a guy in so cal and he told me about this SCT Programmer, and he said that he can tune it so the stock tranny can hold whatever i put in it, i was wondering if anyone knows anything about this and if it is worth it
John Wood has said the tranny will handle 700 hp with good tuning.
Wood's stuff is pretty good. The stock transmission when properly tuned would support close to that number for track use, but repeated full-throttle runs would eventually wear out the clutches. Not in the sense of overheating, but in the sense of literally wearing all the clutch material off of the steel backing plate.
A well-built transmission on top of some agressive tuning will support ungodly stupid power (far in excess of 700 horse) but as hard as it would be shifting at that power output level, everything behind the output shaft would have a VERY limited lifespan.
Ya i talked to Wood and he sounded like he knows his stuff, probably because hes broken enough stuff and learned from his mistakes, im not going to be running over 500 hp anyways, thanks for the info guys
I'm not sure, but i talked to Wood on the phone and he sounded like he knew his stuff, i wanted to get a whole new tranny and he told me that he could build me one but i would just be wasting my money he told me to just start out with the programmer. He also told me that he has tuned trannys that were going out and they held up just fine after and racked up a bunch of miles on them.
I have John's tunes and have talked to plenty others. I bought it thinking that it would be good for my trans. That hope was short lived. His tunes have given me the most trans issues. I would check with Mitch at PDP (email me if you need contact info) or Innovative. They are two of the tops right now. I heard Tadd at ATS has some good tunes but he doesn't have much tuning time now at ATS (just rumored).
Yes I have and I have talked to him since. Everyone makes mistakes and while I don't condone his actions I will not hold him personably liable since it didn't effect me. He didn't ask about the character of the tuner... Never the less he still puts out some great tunes... I have a feeling your name is slightly different on that sight... Are you going to be tuning soon, by chance??? If so drop me a reply on cost of your tunes as I am always willing to try new ones... If not then disregard.
No, my screen name at the Diesel Garage is the same as it is here. I only have two posts, and it will most likely stay that way. I Personally don't care for the arrogant atmosphere there.
No, I don't plan on doing any commercial tuning. I have some good friends at another well known tuning outfit, and I honestly couldn't do my own without inadvertently "stealing" some of their tuning techniques, seeing that I have access to files that are not readily available on the market. I just can't justifty jeapordizing personal friendship for the sake of a paycheck.
You wouldn't want mine anyways Present file is shifting at 4450 RPM with unregulated ICP pressure, boost far in excess of 40 lbs, over 125 mg/stroke mass fuel flow and peak injection timing at nearly 20 degrees. I didn't write it to be persay, reliable
