Engine stops when key is released
I know there's got to be a "gearhead" on this forum that can help me with this!
1986 f250 4x4.
Had an ignition problem and I found it to me the ECM, replaced it and now there's something else going on.....
The truck will start, but dies as soon as the key is released.
I remember on the old Chrysler products this was caused by the "resistor" box on the firewall. I didn't find one on this truck.
Can somebody point me in the right direction?

So it's a gas engine right??
Sounds like it isn't getting power to the ignition module when the key is in the on position, it gets it from a different wire when it is in the start position.
might be a faulty ign switch.
what did the ECM come out of???

Found it!
Thanks folks, I found the problem.
It was a bad connector at the Control Unit. I bypassed the two-wire connector and it is fine now.
Thanks again,
Ed
