High detergent oil????

I have used penzoil sae-HD30 since I started driving about 23 years ago, or at least sae-30 and then one day they put HD in it which I just found out today means High detergent. LOL well anyway I know alot of people hate penzoil so I wont go into that but I have always had good luck with it and I change my oil religiously. so my question is. id it good to use high detergent and do they cool as good as low detergent. this is kinda new to me. any info is appreciated. thanks
Shane

All 15w-40 diesel oils are high detergent to handle the soot. They all seem to run pretty good.

Maybe it was the SAE 30 Pennzoil LongLife that I was using twenty years ago. I think it was labeled HD as well as API SF/CD or similar.

Maybe PZ uses HD to differentiate its detergent straight weight oils from non-detergent oils.

HD30 versus ND30.

I don't think that you can buy a non-detergent oil in a multi-vis.

Am I the only one that thought that HD stood for 'Heavy Duty?' Most HD oils I've seen were single viscosity with a multi-duty rating. HD implying that even if you didn't understand the API ratings, you knew it was suitable for your die<!>sel farm tractor.

I always thought and read that HD stood for Heavy Duty, I even think I have an old can of Pennzoil that says Heavy Duty under the HD. I think it is single vis.

A high detergent oil is fine for most street applications. Don't worry about it. Our street engines need lots of cleaning.

As long as it meets the API and SAE spec for your engine you are fine.

Good Luck,

Shane, I have seen (or overheard) auto parts personell giving grossly flase information to unsuspecting customers. I'm not talking about precise engine rebuild specs, but auto maintenence 101 topics, that I knew when I was a 10 year old. If you have 10 employees, I'll say 5-6 of them could not tell you what the difference is between common ATF's.

No kidding. I had a Kragen guy tell me that diesel (heavy duty) engine oils like Delo are NON-detergent.
