I have used penzoil sae-HD30 since I started driving about 23 years ago, or at least sae-30 and then one day they put HD in it which I just found out today means High detergent. LOL well anyway I know alot of people hate penzoil so I wont go into that but I have always had good luck with it and I change my oil religiously. so my question is. id it good to use high detergent and do they cool as good as low detergent. this is kinda new to me. any info is appreciated. thanks
Shane
Am I the only one that thought that HD stood for 'Heavy Duty?' Most HD oils I've seen were single viscosity with a multi-duty rating. HD implying that even if you didn't understand the API ratings, you knew it was suitable for your die<!>sel farm tractor.

I always thought and read that HD stood for Heavy Duty, I even think I have an old can of Pennzoil that says Heavy Duty under the HD. I think it is single vis.
A high detergent oil is fine for most street applications. Don't worry about it. Our street engines need lots of cleaning.
As long as it meets the API and SAE spec for your engine you are fine.
well I just checked there website and the HD30 is under there Heavy Duty products so I guess it means Heavy Duty and not High Detergent. just goes to show that part store employees dont know much about there products I guess. thanks for all the input

Shane, I have seen (or overheard) auto parts personell giving grossly flase information to unsuspecting customers. I'm not talking about precise engine rebuild specs, but auto maintenence 101 topics, that I knew when I was a 10 year old. If you have 10 employees, I'll say 5-6 of them could not tell you what the difference is between common ATF's.
