Leaf Spring Slipped
Okay....Long story short.....I have the slip clunk, have taken it to the dealer 5 times, and Wednesday will be thier Final Attempt at repair.....however, the last fix (a week ago) they put a 1 degree shim in the rear.......yesterday it started shaking pretty bad at 45mph, even scared my kid.......
I took it home and looked at the back end, just to see if my pretty much untrained eye could see anything.......I did notice that the passenger side bottom leaf spring (at least I think thats what its called....the slabs of metal stacked up beside the rear wheels) anyhow, the passenger side bottom one is off about 1/2 to 1 inch....the back has slipped closer to the tire, and the other end closer to the center of the truck.
I called the dealer, to ask whether I should be driving it, at least until Wednesday, and he said it would be a good idea to park it until then.
???????
What are your thoughts? How bad is this? Does it mean they put it back together wrong?
Help
What I found was that, even though I torqued all of the u-bolts the same I must have tightened the front bolts sooner than the rears. This caused the rear alignment to pull down out of the alignment hole in the shim.
Lossened and retorqued EVENLY and have not had the problem since.
Remember, setting these shims between the spring pack and the axle plate efectively shortens the spring alingment pins. But, I only noticed my spring pack to have slipped upon visual inspection. This never caused me any vibration at all
