At the boneyard a couple of weeks ago and found an under the hood, interior, hood release latch. I wanted to pull it then but couldn't figure out how to get the darn thing out of the cab. It has the large **** on the interior with a keyed lock. How can I get the thing through the firewall? Is there a way to remove the cable by itself? I don't want to cut the cable if I can avoid it...
Take off the cover with 1 screw at the latch, then disconnect the cable from the latch and pull the cable into the cab. You'll need to take the latch part too in order to get it to work.
Nice find, these are getting a bit rare and LMC stopped carrying them. You should be able to have a key made for about $20.
I just pulled one about a month ago & finally had the lock keyed to my ignition key. It was $15 for the latch, cable, handle assy. Another $17 for the keying. I'm going to clean up the latch and paint it along with polishing up the handle. There's even a plug in the fire wall I can remove and feed the new cable through with the old seal. One thing I noticed though, the underside of the cable near the latch has severe aging. I'm going to recoat the cable to protect it from further heat / sun damage. This will go nice with the hood light setup I just found too. :-)
