hi
i have a good used 400m and i am buying a few upgrades for it.
i was wonder about how much hp increase i could possibly get with these modifcations.
street headers- headman
maloriy dual point/ mechanical advance distributor.
crane cam energizer cam 262H.
edelbrock performer intake.- non egr
700 cfm holly carb.
this is about $575 worth of parts and i hope i can squeeze out a lot more power.
i really want a low end torquer do guys have any suggestion as to what would be a good cam and other stuff.
What is the duration on that cam. My 400 has Edelbrock cam, intake and a holley 600 carb and heddman headers and it runs good and has good amount of low torque i use it to truck pull
Hello,I put about the same thing as you in my 351-m. I used a comp cam 268.I can tell you one thing that I wish someone could have told me. I have had 4 diffrent carbs on my truck[f-100 2WD].A holley 750,[3310],600[4776]dubble pumper. Anyway, they all ran ok and had good plug readings. The best one by far is the Holley 600[1850] part#.This one made the most bottem end.As far as H.P,people love to over rate it.I would say my truck has 225-250. With a325 gear it runs hi 15-low16. Hope that helps.
the dyno 2000 on the computer rates my 400 at 300 horse and 420 torque with 8.5 C/R and stock heads I had my truck dynoed and it pegged the needle at 200 horse at the wheels in third gear with 4.10 and 31" tires
hey that's pretty good power! do you have stock ignition? On my 350 chevy it added about 50 h.p. from the old HEI. i'd hoped it add even more since it's a ford.
Desktop Dyno exagerates ALOT when it comes to fords with canted valve heads. The built in flow numbers for canted valve heads are HEMI numbers. You plug in real flow numbers and your future looks dim. DD says my 460 will make power till about 7000 RPM, until I plug in actual flow numbers, then things start getting realistic. (no more go after about 5k)

hi
yeh 7,000 is a lot for a 460. unless you do a lot to a motor it will usally top end at 5,000 to 6,000rpm's.but i'd be happy with 300 h.p. (real h.p.) i reccently found headers from summit for 80.00 bucks! to me that's cheap.
