I'd appreciate all comments/advice from fellow FTE'rs on the following build. I have a low mileage block D1 (whatever) internally balanced removed from a 1973 Lincoln. I will install Silvolite pistons PN# 1143 @ 30 over, stock rods, stock crank and stroke. Cylinder heads are D3VE and will receive a valve grind and remain stock. I plan to reuse the Ford pushrods and rockers. Felpro gaskets, moly rings, clevite bearings and ARP head and main fasteners. Intake will be Edelbrock Performer, with a 600 cfm carb (the one that was on the engine for now) sitting on a 1 inch spacer. Exhaust will be stock van exhaust manifolds through 2-1/2 inch or maybe 2 1/4 inch dual exhaust with a equalizer tube. Distributor will be a HEI appropriatley curved for 34 max advance at 2500 RPM. I expect to be able to use 87 octane and operate this truck at 2400 feet above sea level (if that matters). No towing or work of any kind (like me my truck is retired). This engine is for my retirement show and shine truck. Considering a single Van exhaust system. Transmission is stock C6 rear gear is 3.00. This will power a F100 66 SWB. Your comments are appreciated. Camshaft will be Comp Dual Energy PN# 34-223-4 with new springs and chain.

Reason: forgot camshaft info
I totally agree with chilly save your money that the ARP head, and main bolts will cost you, and replace the stock valves with some one piece stainless this is a much more likely failure point than the fasteners ever will be. There are guys running upwards of 650hp with the stock stuff with no problems those bolts are extremely large, and don't really need upgraded unless your going to turn 7k+ or running a blower or lots of nitrous.
Thanks! Lets discuss the valves. What do you mean by two piece valves? I will do a valve job and if I should replace the valves I will, Its just that I am not familiar with two piece valves? Are the intake and exhaust two piece? Do you have a part number for the replacements? With D3 heads and these pistons I expect a 9.0 to one CR and plan to use 87 octane. Is this correct. Silvolite lists these pistons a 9.0 to one but the CC of the cylinder heads seems to vary quite a bit. Are all D3 heads 92cc? I will not cut the block or heads and plan just a minor resurfacing. I am lery of to much compression and valve train or intake fitment issues. Bone a$$ stock is the plan here on a smallish budget. Later we will do the 522 CI stroker when the truck is finished and I am retired.
2 piece valves refers to how they are built, and the stock ford (and other manufactors for that matter plus many replacement valves) the head of the valve is pressed onto the stem, and can seperate under some conditions, and old age is one of those conditions doesn't happen alot but does happen, and usually ends up destroying the engine.
no not all D3 heads are exactly 92cc infact on stock heads they can actually vary cyl to cyl, within the same head that is close enough for your figures though.
9.0:1 will probably want 89 octane (mid grade around here anyway)
for the valves do you ever look on ebay there is a guy that goes by maddogracing out of florida that almost always has ferrera stainless 5000 series valves for something like $139+ shipping for a full set these are good for most applications short of hard core solid cams, and roller cams which your not going with anyway so would be a very good replacement.
Thanks for the info on the valves! I have looked at Maddogracing on e-bay in fact I have purchased some stuff from him already. This build is a temporary deal and I will build a 522ci in a year or so after I retire. For now I am thinking just a freshen up on a small budget. Bearings, rings, pistons, valve job, all new seals and gaskets, some chrome valve covers, van pan, HEI distributor and sort out the pullies, brackets and such. I have time and I do this for fun! I really appreciate your input.
