emblem twin i beam

My 65 f100 has faded twin i beam decals on both sides. I am making photoshop replacements for those and wanted to insert those inside the metal and plastic emblems. There is a plastic covering on these which I want to take off and I am not sure how to take them off. Do the emblems have interior screws? Do you pry them off carefully? This is way down on the priority list but I am not wanting to wreck the otherwise nice emblems.

First, you can buy the plastic inserts quite inexpensively from DC or Carolina Classics.
The chrome emblem is a push-fit into the fender. You'll need to carefully pry it out with a thin blate putty knife or similar. I used a plastic bondo spreader behind it to protect my paint.
Once out, the plastic portion is crimped into the metal emblem. You pretty much need to break the tabs off to get the old one out and insert the new one. I held my new ones in with a 2 part epoxy. Has worked great so far.
Now would be the time to rechrome the emblems (if they are 1965 ones) as well. The only ones being reproduced are the 1966 version.

The emblems are held on by clips located behind the fender. When you pull the fender you will see them. The inserts are available from all the aftermarket vendors.

I replaced my emblems with some black smoked plastic and I think i looks really cool. Later I plan on adding a marker light behind it for looks.

As mention above replacements inserts are inexpensive to replace; but if your old ones are not crack or not too sun bake; I recommend just respraying the inserts with a red paint color, (Once remove from emblems I sprayed the inserts from the inside out.) My daily driver was done two years ago and its looks as good as new. Truthfully they seem nicer than my 65's after market new one's look. Just be careful when prying the emblems away from your fenders; excellence ideal in using a plastic puddy knife.

Now William -- keep that sarcasm to a dull roar......

To each his own I guess. I agree that lights are where my sentiments stop. But at least he didn't want to chop it and drop in a Chevy 350.........

I would never disscrace my truck by putting chevy parts on it. As far as lights on the sides go I was looking to do something different then what anyone else has done to make my truck stand out. The only time they would come on is if the head lights were on.
