ford store of course wants me to buy new IDM ($900.00)...found one on ebay for a couple hundred enroute.. remember reading in this forum that if IDM is bad, truck more likely than not would not run.. also recall reading that bad harness could be result of all codes.
QUESTION? 1. does local ford store have technique to check harness for bad pins, burned wires etc? 2. would it make sense to go ahead and install new harness before replacing modules since truck seems to running ok??
3. is the rough shifting a possible symtom of any or all of the above codes
I don't understand how the truck can be running at all if the IDM has failed? Normally when the harness burns it will run very rough, and if the IDM fails completely it can not run at all.
It might be the throttle position switch causing the shifting issue, and the injection pressure regulator valve is most likely on the ICP code.
What happens when you clear the codes and drive it? Do they come right back?
When the check engine light first came on the engine would stall at idle and lose power momemtarily at higher rpms. these symptoms only lasted maybe 30 miles and stopped as quickly as they appeared. however , my check engine light continues to stay on. i don't know how to clear the codes. please advise.
To clear the codes just unhook the battery's and the pull the light switch on to drain any residual power. Leave it for 10 minutes or so and the computer is reset.
yea.... i had dc'd the battery to reset it b4. dumb me with my first diesel forgot about the second battery over there on the drivers side . that makes all the difference in the world. i'm learning. thanks fellas.
