Shift problems after timing

It's a 90 bronco with a 351 and E4OD.
I just timed the engine, the transmission was having problems already, this is a rebuild project so the truck didn't come with an engine etc.

It won't shift past 1st by itself but before I timed the engine I could manually shift it into 2nd, now I can't, it won't shift into second it will just stay in first.

I replaced the MLPS and the selinoid pack. Do you think the transmission is bad or is there an adjustment somewhere? I know there's a tool that will adjust the MLPS but I don't know how to use it, where do I make the adjustments? Also, after timing, it's idling high (1,000 rpm)and it's timed perfect at 10 degrees, I'm going to replace the TPS this weekend, could that effect the transmission?

I'm thinking since I timed it and the transmission is acting different that the tranny might not be bad but there's something I'm missing.

Thanks for any responses.

The timing change made some sort of a change to the computer and fouled up the shift points. I am not exactly sure why, since you should be able to run it at 10 degrees. Also, the 1,000 rpm idle is not right either. Something is screwy here. You said that the trans was having problems anyway but that does not explain the high idle.

You put the motor in, right? What about the tranny? It sounds like somewhere the motor/tranny/computer are not on proper speaking terms. Are you sure that the motor matches the transmission matches the computer etc., if you see what I'm getting at?

I'm positive the engine and transmission are in correctly. It's possible the TPS is bad. When I retimed the motor the truck had much more power, I was able to spin the tires on dry pavement. The transmission is strong, no slipping, and now that I can't even shift it into 2nd manually it makes me wonder if it's bad.

This is puzzling for sure.

when you set the timing you unplugged the spout connector correct. then once everything was hooked back up you disconnected your battery and let the ecu drain down for about 5-15 mins then you took it for a drive right. if not you should.

hows the tranny fluid look? when was it serviced last?

Ok I disconnected the battery for about an hour, then drove it again. The idle problem is fixed so that's good. Still won't shift out of 1st, I would hate to have to get a rebuilt tranny right now as it's running better than it ever has. I just can't get it to go into 2nd even shifting it manually, maybe it's the linkage? I adjusted the linkage before when it wasn't timed correctly, should I redo it?

Thanks for the responses, I got it to shift into second manually again by playing around with the MLPS. Does anyone know how to adjust that thing?
