Just recently my 85 F350 was totaled by a moron in a tow truck. It was had the 351W, new 275 tire, new front and rear springs, rebuilt tranny, new bed sides due to rust, custom 2 tone paint. Well the tow truck company has a $10000 deductible so this never went to their insurance and they didnt want to involve mine, and I try not to be an over bearing ***. But they only gave me $3200 for the truck without by back. And I can help but feel like I just got screwed. Does this sound right to the rest of you?
I just had a car declared a "total loss" by my insurance company and they gave me the full replacement value. It's possible that the people you are dealing with are trying to give you the "wholesale value" which is much lower.
Although, you should keep in mind that the tranny, springs and tires aren't going to make your truck worth more. Get the opinion of a professional auto apraiser and give yourself peace of mind. They'll charge you for it, but it'll let you sleep at night without thinking that you've been screwed.
I just now noticed that you sad the "gave" you the money. If the deal has already happened, you could be stuck with it.
I would have run it through my insurance company, just to give them some grief.
They're just trying to pay you off and keep their rates lower. Hate to say it, I've worked on their side of the fence. Damage happens, a good company would have given you more, or fixed the truck for you.
Well hte deal is done now. But I was curious. So now its time to hunt for another mid 80s 350. And wait until I have built up the money to purchase it. Thanks guys.
