I have a 1999 explorer with over 100,000 miles and a 2000 F-150 with 80,000 miles on them. Do the oils made for high mileage vehicles make that much of a difference or are regular oils fine. Thanks for any input on this.
Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic is a superb oil, regardless of its status as a high-mileage oil. Even if you do not need the seal conditioners of a typical high-mileage oil, this oil holds its viscosity very well and has yielded superb used oil analyses (UOAs) over at

I'm not promoting this oil as a high-mileage oil, but as a superb oil with a great additive package for any vehicle that uses the viscosities it comes in...
...the point is, don't write high-mileage oils off just because you don't need the high-mileage benefits... some are great oils in their own right!

I've used Castrol GTX 10w-30 in my '96 Ranger since I purchased it new. It has 193,000 miles on it and does not leak oil nor does it use more than a 1/4 of a quart per 3000 mile oil change. I don't know much about oils, but the Castrol has served me well. My 2000 Ranger is getting the same treatment.
