automatic climate control

does anyone know why the A/C always comes on when the AUTO button is pressed and if that means the A/C compresser is always running. It won't come on if it is really cold outside, but most of the time it does. It is a 2004 model.

A fellow Mets fan! I have the auto climate control on my 97 Sable. It's not a truck but I'll guess that the system is very similar. The auto button will engage the a/c all the time if it is working correctly. My guess is so that it can constantly adjust the temp to the set level and keep the humidity down. The a/c won't come on if the outside air temp is below a certain level, I forget the number but I want to say 60 degrees.

You have to select the panel or floor mode buttons to have the compressor not run. It will still operate as automatic as long as you don't touch the fan control.
