Donor Diesel

Hi,

I'm wondering what you folks think of this. First off, I have a '73 Ford F250 Highboy with a 360 and an NP435. I'm looking at an '84 F350 with a 6.9L IDI diesel, and a trashed T18 or T19 selling real cheap. What would be involved in taking the engine out of this and putting it in my F250? Would it fit? What would be the deal with the bellhousing?
Thanks,
Phil White

aint nothing gonna fit. bellhousing is wrong, later bell housing on deisel should fit your tranny. motor stands wont work, deisel bellhousing has a hydraulic clutch. you will have to change wiring, fuel lines, radiator, drivelines, and reinforce the frame. 6.9s are not good motors. poor fuel mileage, low power, and very heavy. you will also have to beef up the front suspension. better off to rebuild and hop up a 390, or spend the bucks for the parts to install a 460.

Been there done that. Mine was a '75. I built it originally with the NP435. The power band and gear split did not match up very well so I went to the T19. Gear split was a lot better. I custom built mounts in place. The T19 and NP435 have the same bolt pattern. I used the 6.9 bellhousing and cut off the hydraulic clutch mounts and built a stock -'79 type setup. Would go hydraulic in retrospect. The radiator was stock tanks with the highest efficiency core available. You will have to run a fuel return line back to the tank.

I would have to agree with the previous post regarding power on 6.9's. Would recommend 7.3 or Cummins. PM me for more info.
