I have about 1000 mi. on Rotella T synthetic with very little color change, its the first time I tried synthetics and the jury is still out in my case. I'll know more when the temps. start falling and I try the cold morning start-ups. Up to now the only thing different I've noticed is that the engine idles a lot quieter. The price was a little more but I purchased it at Wal Mart, oil and filter was less than 70.00 as I recall. I hope to get at least 6000 mi. between changes, we'll see.
you will have to be happy with the decision that YOU make. Just make sure the oil is diesel rated.. As far as long lasting ... God didnt make it yet. Keeping a regular maintanance schedule is the best way to keep your engine running. If you want to, you can add a remote filter and further filter the oil. Only thing I can tell you is the oil is the life of the engine.
I also went to shell Rotella syn, i change it just as often as i did dino, the reason i use it is cause it makes me feel better .... the truck seems to run quieter ... i "think" i get a smidge better mileage.... and im happy with it.
Doesnt look like any difference other than the Delvac has to have some extra ratings added for heavier duty equipmant manufactures. Probably just the marketing of them is the big difference. Can you get the Truck and SUV in 1-gallon jugs?
Yes, it looks like the same stuff. What extra ratings did you see? I think I bought mine in 5qt jugs, don't remember for sure but I bought it at Walmart.
I was tallking about meeting the industry and builder specs that the Delvac has to meet because its marketed and aimed at the heavy industry. One other thing is the Delvac does meet the PLUS standards
Devlac:
Ratings and builder specs that it meets
API CI-4 PLUS/CI-4/CH-4/CG-4/CF-4/CF/SL/SJ
ACEA E5/E4/E3
Caterpillar ECF-1
Cummins CES 20072/20071
Detroit Diesel Power Guard Oil Specification
Global DHD-1
JASO DH-1
Builder Approvals
Cummins CES 20078/20077/20076/20075
Mack EO-N Premium Plus 03, EO-M Plus
Mercedes Benz 228.5
Volvo VDS-3, VDS-2
Renault RVI RXD
Thanks for the links BDTank. Judging from reading the two articles there is quite a difference between the two. Delvac being formulated for extra heavy duty service where the Truck and SUV oil is more just heavy duty. Both more than adequite for the PSD.
Personally I use the Delvac, I order it by the 4-1 gallon case for the shop from a local warehouse in Seattle.
I use Delo 400 and just got 4 gallons of it yesterday gotta change the oil this week. I'm sending off a sample to Blackstone this time so it will be interesting to see how things are doing.
Kwik do you save much ordering it that way? I wouldnt mind getting my oil that way if it saved me a couple bucks. The local AdvanceAuto has the Delo400 for $7.44 a gallon and the Delvac is also $7.44 a gallon.
