Unhappy Rough Idle, Stall when cold

My 92 clubwagon 302 will idle low and sometimes stall when cold and comes off the initial high startup idle. when warm she seems to be idling a little low. I have an idea that it might be the IAC and I have cleaned it once last year which helped a little. Any ideas?? She has about 230,000 KM on original engine. The crankcase filter keeps falling apart and maybe that is what is clogging up the IAC. Anyone else with a similar problem?? Thank you all very much for all your replies!!

Had a similar problem with my `89 Clubwagon 302. Problem began like you describe and progressively got way worse. Installed a new IAC purchased from Ford. That didn`t really help much. Finally the van began to start hard ( alot of cranking before it would start), then it progressed into a very poor idle and overall poor drivability/performance. On a hunch, I disconnected the MAP Sensor(which looked like it had been in there since 1989). It then started quickly and ran beautifully. However, running it without the MAP connected caused Black Smoke out of the exhaust which could cause the Cat Converter to clog, plus I could smell rotten eggs. So, I installed a new MAP Sensor which helped a lot with the starting, idle and overall drivavility /performance. Black smoke is gone and the rotten egg smell too. Stalling is much improved on cold start(sometimes it needs 2 starts) after that it runs like a bear! My gas mileage is 14-15 MPG. Hope this helps you with your problem.

The MAP on my `89 Clubwagon is mounted under the hood on the passenger side just above the Blower Motor . It has one electrical plug on it and one vacuum hose. I`m not sure where it would be on yours, but maybe it might be located in the same general area. If your not sure where it is, you could go to a parts store or Ford dealer and ask them.

In the same location on a '92. It's actually mounted on a bracket on top of the heater box.

I can't find the map on my clubwagon. It is not where yours is as there is nothing above the heater blower. Does anyone know where the map is on my vehicle??
Thanks

Does yours have air? There is a vacuum line, a big plastic one going from the intake to the map sensor. You should see it to the LEFT of the air box when you open the hood. The little plastic box is that it's connected to is the MAP sensor. It's on top of the heater box, above the evaporator/heater core assembly. It's mounted to the cowl on a metal bracket. That is best description I can give of where it's located.

Thanks for the help pfoggle. I did find the map, it sits right on top of the evaporator assembly. Before I change this part though (100.00 cdn plus tax), I also have the problem of a low idle. The idle is not poor, just too low, so that when I put the heater or ac on it makes the needle for the amps drop and goes so low that when cold it stalls. I checked the IAC again and it looks ok, not much I could clean, but I think the spring in it is not as good as it should be and that might be the problem too. the IAC is 100.00 bucks too so I would like to change one of them only. Or the idle problem might be something related to the ac, because it doesn't go high enough I think when I turn it on. Any suggestions??

Check your TPS. If it's idling low that may be the cause. That or a miss.
