9" locker info

I found an add selling a locker for a nine inch rearend. It says it is for a 31 spline axle and fits housings with 3.250" bearing seats, like the "H" case. I don't know how many splines my axles have. Should this locker work? The truck is a 1982 F-150 with the original 9" axle, 3.55 gears, and an open diff.

Would need the information off the tag on your rear end, the code is in the first part of the top line on the tag.

31 spline is truck spline .28 spline is car spline unless you go was back to the 60's.I would double check but I think your good to go.The smaller bearing size is also car sizes.

Unless you are the original owner you can never tell what is really in the truck unless you pull the axle and pulling the axle is not tough to do. Sometimes when pulling the axle you will find your bearings are gone or torn apart. If you are adding a locker, sometimes it is worth it to throw new axles in with the bearings already pressed on and maybe even upgrade to 35 spine for $119 each axle.

FWIW: You can find 28 spline axles in stock trucks right up through the 70s.
