I have a 92 F150 Supercab w/ a 302ci. I changed the alternator out about 8-9 months ago. Recently, when the motor is cold the alternator is not charging even at 2000 rpm's. It starts to charge after it gets plenty hot. I soldered in the new connectors and used the lube included with the new harness (so my truck wouldn't go up in smoke like I've read stories about) I am not sure if I have a spade lug problem because of excessive resistance, or if I just need some fresh lube for the conductors on the plug. If it's the lube; what is it called so I can get some from the parts place. Any help would be appreciated, before it dies or burns up on me. Thanks
I just swapped out the old alternator last night. Everything's great now. I bought the alternator at AdvanceAuto. The original warranty was for lifetime, the replacement they gave me is only 30 days ?? What's up with that If this one dies I'm going to NAPA
I wouldnt recommend buying an alternator from anywhere but Napa. Went through 3 in 2 days when I got one from Auto Zone. One wouldnt charge unless the engine was up past 2 grand.
