'53-'56 Battery Tray Mounting Question

How the heck does a stock 53-56 battery tray mount? I'm trying to make my own, and the pictures of a stock one don't make any sense to me. I can see that there are two bolts that hold it to the frame, but where does the other side bolt to? I can't imaging that it just hangs from the two bolts on the frame.

Any pictures or descriptions are appreciated. Thanks. - Brad

There are four bolts that hold the tray in place - two on the upright and two at the front base that attach to the running board support.

Amen to that. Goerge is da man! I mean, could you ask for a better picture than that? It looks like a photo of a new truck.

Wait...it IS a new truck!

Great picture George. Thanks

I have one more dumb question:
I have 3 slotted holes in my running board bracket. I thought that the running board used 2 of them. Am I missing one or does the running board only use one?

Thanks.

The running board bracket that holds the battery tray is different from the other five. It has extra holes and the lower section has a step in it to accommodate the battery tray on the lower level and the running board on the higher (outboard) level. Do you, by chance, have six brackets - all the same? If so, you're missing the special bracket for the battery tray.

6 brackets? Woahwoahwoahwaohwaohwaoh my head is spinning.

I'm hoping that since you have a F-250 that you have longer running boards and need 3 brackets per side. Both of my passenger side brackets are the same and have no provisions for a battery. I do however have an extra drivers side bracket that has the holes and such for the gas tank mounting.

Last night I used the drivers side bracket on the passenger side and fabbed up a battery box using angle iron and some threaded rod and it worked pretty good. I'll get some primer on it tonight and post some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks for your help - Brad

Looks like someone changed my battery tray in my 56. Mine mounts the same but is slightly longer and almost touches the inner fender plate (if you know what I mean). Maybe the picture Earl put up is for a 6V battery? or someone put a different year tray in mine. Needs to be replaced anyways, it's pretty rusted out. Great picture!

Here's my attempt at a battery tray. I was able to jump up and down on it so I think it should be ok.

that looks to be just about bulletproof, I think the original also bolts to the body mount in the hole right next to the area where the pits are.
