bhinbrevard - I do not think the 360 will bolt directly to the bell housing on the 351m's C6.
There is a FE motor section of the Forum. The guys there are very knowledgable there. They will know for sure but I do beleve you will need a 360/390 bell housing to swap out with the 351m bell housing on the C6 in order to get the 360 into you truck. Oh ya. and you will need new motor mounts as well. The 360 is in a differant motor family than the 351M and all the bolt/mount holes are different between the two.
Pat.
Got check out the motor forums section of this board. You will see that ford has over 30 motors they have made over the years.
The 360 is part of the FE family including the following motors all with the same or similar base block:
FE V8- 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428
And now your gonna say the 427 is a chebby motor. They do have a 427 also, but from what I heard the Ford 427 is the Corvett killer because of it in the AC Cobra in the 60's
And an FE is the only motor I have heard of to sit for about 10 years and start after a little coaxing. I am sure there are others.
I think there was 3 versions of Fords 427, SOHC, 2 4bll =754 HP regular 427 I think it was 425 HP and they put a 427 in some 60's dump trucks they had a much longer stroke.
Hi, I am a brand new member and I just want to say a couple things about the 360. As long as I have had the truck with the motor it has never given me any problems. I have had the truck 8 years and it has all the power I need. As far as the question for the 360 bolting up to the C-6 tranny it will bolt right up. I was wondering if anybody can tell me where I can get body panels for my 78 F-100 besides LMC, Jeffs Bronco Graveyard? I need bed, floor pans, and a hood. If possible email to kparks1177@gmail.com
you can make it into a 390 with a little work.... Just put 390 crank and rods into it.
At that point you might as well make it a 410! I believe the 390 and 410 used the same cranks, just different pistons
I agree 1000% with the if an FE sat for 10 years.. I had a 1970 Ford F-100 with a 360 in it and 270,000 on it before I retired the truck. .but it did sit for 5 years... All I did was pull the plugs, poured some oil into the cylinders, turned it over with the plugs out, then put the plugs in and it fired right up!
Great Engines, heavy but reliable!
Also as others have said - plenty and I mean PLENTY of info in the Engine Specific Sections
first message from fort worth , tx. : ) I found u guys by accident last week. I just went through a chevy souped up nightmare , paid about 5 grand to find out it needed a better geared rearend for the tug-o-war . Blew the 350, it was a 78 and 2 thirds restored , got $1200 , big loss. ANYWAYS I am gonna get me a good ole gas guzzling 69 thru 79 ford again,I had just given my 79 4X4 to my son . Had a 400 in it. I aint sure what to buy , there r at least 15 different 1's to choose from in the dfw ( Dallas / Fort Worth ) area. If I can be patient, there is a 69 that just needs a paint job outside and a emergency brake to get it inspected. It has a mint restored interior, 3speed changed from the column to the floor, and the "360" that I didnt know existed until last friday. THere is a nice 73 , with 3 on the tree, but no ac: ( The 69 has the original working under dash ac unit. I am on disability and aint gonna have much gas money, but I probably only have about 5 to 10 yrs max left here. So, I donno which is better. Is the 360 supposed to be more gas economically than the 390 , as in a noticable difference? Cuz I will just b using it to go to doctors and fishing : ) and is there a noticable difference in a 400 and a 390? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, since I aint a mechanic. btw, I lived in dover and concord New Hampshire in the late 80's . That's God's country up there. : ) Do yall think I should stick to my guns and not pay over 1400 for 1 if'n it aint got ac??

Reason: forgot another question i had
Welcome to FTE.
I would like to help you out but can not help out with everything you are asking.
As for gas mileage. I only know the 2wd trucks. The 360 and 390 use the same block but have different crank and rods. Most everything else is the same. If properly tuned both will probably get a max of about 14mpg with 10-12mpg being more common to see.
The 67-72 trucks have the bulge or outward dent on them and the 73-79 have the half moon indent on the body line. The 73-79 also have a wider frame after the cab. Later in the 70's is when the extended cab was produced. The 360/390 was wast used in the trucks around '76 when the 400's replaced them. I think the 400 might have been an option a few years before but I am not sure.
Lucky for you thought that you found FTE. There are special sections on this forum for what you are asking. There is a section for 73-79 trucks, 67-72 trucks, 360/390 motor section and 400 motor section. Also, and probably more importantly there is a Texas Section and possibly a Dallas section. I would ask there for all your pricing questions and possibly just re-ask your same question there. Also post a similar question in the 73-79 section. There are only a couple in the NH area that are dealing with this age of truck.
And Dover is ......... Well I try to stay out as much as possible..
I worked in Concord for about 6 years until I got layed off. Not a bad little town.
thanks for rthe input...I ended up with a mercury grand maruis, 1986 model ,fully loaded w/a 302 that was garage parked for 22 yrs, with only 74 k oriiginal miles on it: ) So, for the time being , I am content: ) my second choice was gonna be a lincoln continental mark V in fort worth that has a lost title, but only has 20k miles on it : ) bwah bwah bwah : )
