usually on the left driver's side door jamb, on the cab part or adjacent to that on the door. should have an axle code i believe. most likely a 3.73 or 4.10
So your saying every 2000 Ford Single axle Diesel 7.3 L, F350 Super Duty with a 6 Speed manual has 3.73 gears..??? Reason I ask is because my door tag says D2 which is 4.10 Limited Slip.. But removing the diff covers they have 3.73.. Very Confused..

OK, im sorta new to all this gear stuff, what is the main difference between a 3.73 and a 4.10... My truck has D1 which is 3.73 limited slip. probably next spring i'll be doing some pulling, around the 8-10 thousand pound range, I'm guessing the 3.73 is perfectly fine for?? if this helps any with no load when im doing 100 Km/h (60 mph) im doing about 1900 rpm, and when I go to 110 km/h (im guessing thats close to 70 mph) im doing right around 2000 rpm.
the number is actuall 3.73:1, and 4.10:1. a 3.73 ratio means the driveshaft will spin 3.73 times for the axle (wheel) to make one full revolution. a numerically lower number is better for fuel mileage, and torque is lost through the driveline. a higher number will make the engine spin faster at any speed than one lower than it. our 4.88 F-550 is good for towing, it is about 2500 rpm at 60mph, our 4:30 dually (tows) is about 2050 rpm at 60mph, and my 3.73 F-350 is about 1800 rpm.
Cool, now I know what gears I have. And I really love my truck, it has the auto tranny but I like it, when im pulling about 8000 pounds going up little rolling hills it doesn't shift down at all. Only when im going up some bigger long hills it just shifts out of the overdrive or whatever and it just goes holding whatever speed I have cruise on. Truly a great truck. First Ford and I will never go to anything else.
