Quick Q's

I have a 1985 F-150, 4x4 with an inline six. Will a starter and alternator for an 1986 4.9 work on mine(the starter for the 86 has a different shape to it)? What is the best way to figure out what rear end I have on my truck?
Thanks,
Rick

Go to www.partsamerica.com. Plug in an 85 with a six and pretend you are looking for a starter. Write down their number for it. Then back out and enter an 86 with a six, and look at the part number for it, and see if it's the same.

If your rearend is smooth on the back with no bolts, it's a Ford 9 inch. If the rearend has a cover with bolts showing, it's a Ford 8.8(more than likely what you have).
