Please don’t jump all over me if this seems like a stupid question. I someone told me that the newer f250’s with the 6.7 have a lower trans gears and rear end than the 6.0 did. He told me that the new diesel would turn 40’s without gears just as good as my 6.0 turned 37’s without gears. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I would love to do 40’s and wouldn’t be towing more that 5k lbs, but it does seems like it would be foolish with out gears (which I do not want to do). Thanks.
Your friend is wrong about gears. Almost all 6.0s came with 373s. These new 6.7s offer a 3.31ish, 3.5 and the 373 cogs. Its the 900ft lbs of torque that lets the new 6.7 pull these big tires. Lower gears of course work better but with the 373 you could pull it off. Fords 4.30 option can be had as well
A stock 6.0 with 3.73s and 37s was able to put out a little over 4200 lbs of tractive force at the ground in first gear. A stock 2017 6.7 on 40s would be able to put out over 7200 lbs so much better get up and go. These numbers assume the torque converters putting out 1:1 which they wouldn't be but you get the idea.
I have 37s with a 3.5" front lift, and they rub a little. The chin spoiler was rubbing so I yanked it. Now they rub on the bottom rear fender well plastic.
