My 67 F100 has a leaking Bendix Unit on it. I have a 73 F250 parts/ donor truck with a Ford unit on it. I know I have to change out the steering column with it but I can not find in the threads if a F250 ford unit will work/ Fit in a F100. If the Ford unit will fit, will the pittman arm be the same or will it work ?
I do not know much aboiutthe power steering, but the best way for yourself to know is to look at the two, do they bolt in the same place, turn the same way, turn the same from lock to lock. I hope this helps
Changed my Bendix with a Ford on my 69, the column is about 2 1/2" shorter and I also used the pitman arm from the donor, the pitmans are different from the Bendix to Ford.
Charles, The gear is the same on the 250 as the half ton. You will need the pump w/brackets, hoses, and everything from the pitman arm to the horn button.
Don't fret none, everything should be a direct bolt up exchange.
Hey John, I got it all switched over. The ford box is slightly bigger at the top end and I had to notch the left motor mount about a 3/8 in. right at the top back corner close to the frame. I cut the notch and folded it in and welded it back up after the notch cut. Looks like it will work fine now. I'm sure glad the motor was out for this switch.
You should of replaced the left motor perch with the correct one from the donor Ford box truck as it will bolt up in the spare X member holes. I have seen no difference inside the pump as well the pressure relief springs between a Bendix and Ford PS pumps. I would add a large cooler to the system like one off a 98 up super duty Ford while your apart.
Sorry Charlie, We presume we know what a reader knows or has read. I thought as many times as the ps, pdb posts get in that you knew you would need the left engine perch for FE installs.
Sorry, I guess we'll have to step it up to keep up. lol
Thanks John & Beemer, Yea I missed the motor perch swap part and my donor truck was 95 miles away and my sawzall and welder were right here so it was no big deal. I did think to get the big stock cooler out of the 73 F250 and I will install it soon. I hope to get the motor in next week or two, time allowing lol
Charles, the Ford coolers are a "cheap fix" at best, go to your favorite Ford dealer and order a cooler for a 2000 up Super Duty truck pt# F81A-3D746-AC, it's 4" x 6 1/4" x 5/8". It has mounting brackets, is easy to mount up front between the lower frame rails with 1 1/4" angle iron in the airstream.

Thanks John and Bemmer, I will put a cooler on it. I spent 1 1/2 hours in the galleries looking for a picture of this new pump and mount on a FE and finally found one so now I know how to mount it.
Charles, PM me as I can't get pictures on this forum (me stupid I guess) and I'll send advice / tips on how I changed over from a Bendix to Ford box on my 68 CS. Far as pumps the "Thompson" pump is easy to rebuild, the thing is to have a pulley puller ( I spent $104 for mine) as I don't like to rely on outside help. As i'm a licensed A&P mechanic over kill is better as I run motors over 500K hard miles and 69 250 Flair over 940K.
