When was the bolt pattern changed to metric?

My 1984 F-250 uses a 8 x 6.5 bolt pattern. I would like to upgrade to some better looking "take-off" alloy wheels... But now they are 8 x 170mm. Will the metric wheels work on my hubs?
Help! I need to loose the "steelies" and the "dawg dish" caps. What will work that'll look good?

I'm not sure on 3/4 ton axles but I know that the 5x5.5 turned "metric" in 97, but they were still the same size as 5x5.5 so the rims were interchangable. I would assume the same for the 8 luggers, but second opinions are always nice.

I think '05 for the F250-350.

I believe the 8 lug wheels went metric starting in 99. and no they wont fit on the older trucks, I tried it once just to be sure.

Are these the original 8 bolt off white OEM rims that you want to replace?

What state are you in and do want to get rid of them?\

BTW, nice truck, (except the front). I saw the front grill and headlight frames a while back on ebay.

Photo was taken just after I painted the truck last year. I was in the process of bolting stuff back on. Truck is complete now.

I'm in Alabama and I plan on keeping the original wheels/caps.

Darn... Not only are you too far away but you want to keep the rims. I wanted to put the originals back on mine.

Ford used the 8x6.5" bolt pattern up until the Super Duties came out, which is a 1999 model year truck.
GM and Dodge continue to use 8x6.5....
