Does anyone know if an 87 windsheild will fit an 80 cab? I have an 87 F250 with a rotted out cab. I just bought an 80 cab and front clip that's rust free but it needs a windshield. The one in my 87 is perfect. I know they're a pain to change, but I'm a cheap ******* if the finished product will be just as good.
Fit is just fine, however the 87-96 glass has black paint around the edge. This paint makes the glass appear slightly different and will tend to obscure the dash VIN on 80-6 trucks. Not a big deal though. Many aftermarket windshield makers don't even make the 80-6 type any more. If you ask for one you will receive and 87-96 windshield.
Take care in removing the good windshield, I found that using a a mixture of solvent and brake fluid in an oil can sprayed on the glue really softens it (Don't use on a good vehicle as brake fluid is tough on the paint) I use a "rope" cutter and a long blade flexible knife for cutting through at the bottom edge...for some reason Ford really puts the adhesive along the bottom edge. Take your time and don't pry. Good luck
Related question... how does one go about removing the trim pieces around the windshield? I started to mess with them by trying to lift them from the bottom corner thinking that they were maybe clipped in somehow but I quit when it looked like I was bending the trim a bit. I really didn't spend a lot of time looking at it - just messing it with it one afternoon. Anybody have the trick for this?
There are blind clips in there, and a special tool to release them. It isn't an expensive tool, but sure makes it easier. The clips catch on the backside of the trim, you go between the trim and the sheet metal to push them over to release. Not sure if I made a clear enough description, maybe someone can do better....
I got one coming with a set of interior tools on Ebay for $5. I know resto companies have them, probably could get one at a local parts shop, but they might not have it on hand since that kind of trim isn't too common any more. Eastwood has them, www.eastwoodco.com, or J C Whitney. Here is a pic of the tool Eastwood has. Trim tool
