Please help in my search...

Hello all. Am in the market for a 1999-2002 CC 4x4 250/350 powerstroke and test drove a few this weekend. I was amazed at the differences between them in how they drove and the power they had. I was hoping to get a 6-speed as I like to shift, but everything was auto. Will I be dissapointed driving this rig with a 6-speed? I live in an area where traffic is NOT a concern to me. I also understand they are more durable.
1. For those with 6-speeds do you like them vs. autos?
2. Is there less insulation in an XLT vs. a Lariat? The one XLT I drove had an unbelievable amount of engine noise vs. all of the others to the point where conversation was almost impossible(it did have a 4-5" exhaust on it though).
Thanks for any info. This is a long arduous process trying to find the "right" one. Any suggestions will help.

You may want to drop down and talk to the diesel guys for these specific questions. You may get some better results.

Everyone who has a manual will tell you they love it.

I'd recommend searching for "manual" or 6 speed or ZF-6, etc. You should find quite a few topics discussing it.

I came across a 2001 F350 CC/LWB 4x4 Lariet a couple of months ago, accidently. I had stopped at a GM used car lot to look at it because in our area (strong GM area) used SuperDuty's don't last long. I looked over the outside and went to reach for the driver's door and out of the corner of my eye I could see the saleman grimmace. I opened the door and said "Oh............it's a stick". The salesman replied "Yes, I could have sold this truck 50 times if it would have been an automatic" He went on to say that a manual is a $3000-4000 knockoff on the price over a similiar truck equipped with an automatic, and the automatic truck sells in a few days, if not hours.

Absolutely love my handshaker. Had to order it to get it in a Lariat, but I'm happy with it.

Thanks for all of the replies. I also have this poste in the diesel forum. I am in contact with someone out of state w/ a 6-spd. I don't like to buy w/o inspection, but they seem to be pretty reputable. I guess that's the price you pay in the age of information.
I also have searched this, but found no concrete answers. The truck I am looking at is an XLT. I was wondering how many people actually use their information centers in their Lariats and can I retrofit one, so I can get ballpark mileage and DTE?
