Beginner Needing a little help

I bought an old 77 f -150. Now, I'm not so sure on the engine. Was told it has a 460 swapped into it. But, not so sure anymore.

Anyways, my questions shouldn't matter a whole lot on the which motor it is.

I'm having a problem figuring out how to hook up the electric choke on the carb. There is a red wire coming off the carb that is for it. But, not sure what I tap it into too??

Then, I can't seem to hook up the tranny kickdown. The rod that goes to the tranny is there. The piece it connects to on carb is there, but they aren't connected. Even if they were the piece on the carb just spins. Touching the throttle doesnt affect the piece. I hope that makes sense. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Also, how do you tell if your choke is opening all the way up?

Thanks,

Kyle

Kyle,

The positive choke wire needs to be hooked up to a switched wire, meaning a circuit that is controlled by the ignition key. A lot of guys hook it up to the positive connection on the coil (because it's handy), which is a very bad idea. It's probably best & easiest to wire it directly to a "IGN" terminal on the fuse panel.

2) When the choke is fully open, the choke blade should be vertical. If you flip it by hand, you can get a feel for what position is open & closed. You may need to open the throttle to get the choke mechanism to be able to operate (doing this with the engine off). With the air cleaner off & the engine idling (not on fast idle) & warm, the choke blade should be vertical.

3) So far as the kickdown, is it possible to post a picture? The best I can say is, when the throttle is opened all the way, the kickdown rod is pushed back & down. The point on the throttle lever may spin in the lever (depending on the design), but it still should move back when the lever is opened up, pushing the rod back as well.

Hope it helps-

For the choke, I'll just look for the IGN terminal on the fuse box next time I'm out wrenching. If I can't find it, I'm sure I'll be back.

The choke appears to be opening up all the way.

For the kickdown... I think I am missing parts of something.
