Post-Intake Installation Question

After installing my Eddie intake, I noticed an exposed opening (hole) on the side of each head about midway, just above the intake. They appear to channel under the rocker.

I've looked closlely at Tom Monroe's "How to Rebuild Ford V8 Engines", and think I see them there, so hopefully I got it right.

What's the purpose?

That hole is a passage to keep the the egr passage from overheating, I think that is the wording in the book. That passage should be open, do not block it and you will be fine. There is a reference to this passage in the book, if you look close enough.

That is the exhaust crossover passage that supplies heat to the intake manifold as well as spent gas for the EGR valve function.

EGR off gas -- Intake manifold heater

So it flows over the top of the intake to help keep it hot?

Ok, then I'm good to go, almost thought I had the wrong intake or something funky going on with my heads.

I guess I'll keep it clean from any muddobbers nests, cause it looks perfect for them.
