97 F250HD 5.8L Engine Polution ?
I am new to the site, great source of info. I have a 97 F250HD with a 5.8L auto and the oil pan started to leak and had a exhaust manifold crack. I ended up pulling the engine to replace the pan, two exhaust manifolds, rear seal and freeze plugs. The engine was quite rusty from plowing snow for years. My question is there is a air pump on the motor and exhuast tubes coming from each manifold for polution control. Could I block the back of each of these manifolds and do away with this gear? The tubes are rusty and probably should be replaced if I am leaving them since the motor is out. I would have to leave the one going to the EGR of course. Does anyone know for sure by removing them if there will be any problems (ie: check engine light, performance, etc). Any help would be appreciated. Anything else I should do while the engine is out?
