2bbl vs 4bbl Heads

hello friends....im in the process of building my 80 302 from the heads up to go into my 87 f-150 4byford. im looking to get around 300 horse, and hopefully at least 350 lbs/ft...im going with the edelbrock performer carb, cam, intake, lifters.my question is about the heads....id love to just spend the 1200 bucks and get the performer heads...but the one problem is the 1200 bucks...the heads off the motor are 2bbl heads and supposedly have less than 20k on a rebuild like the rest of the motor. can 2bbl heads be ported for what i want or am i wasting my time and should i just buy some peformance 4bbl heads? thanks

I cant remember the part no.But some 71 and 72 302 W heads actually have a WAY better exhaust port than other 302 or even the 69-70 351 windsors. It doesnt have no where near as big of a lump in the exhaust side port. With a valve out you can actually stick your finger all the way into the valve area. You cant do that with the other factory 302/351 W heads. If you can find them they are cheap horsepower and I'm sure they will easily meet your HP goal. Have run a set of heads like yours on a street stock car with minimum sucess on getting the HP needed. That lump in the exhaust port is just to restrictive and grinding them out would be very time consuming.Let alone I dont think you could go far enough to come close to matching the heads mentioned above even stock.
P.S. I think it might even include some 73 heads in that group too.Maybe someone can clarify the correct years for us here....
