Hello, I am trying to take my intake manifold out on my 78' 250, has 460, and I can't seem to get the distributer to break loose. I have taken the distributer apart down the last step which (I think?!) is pulling it out but it won't come out. The instructions from a haynes manual say it should pull right out, but dang it if I can pull it out, i got the nut off underneath and the little piece that holds the whole thing down...i don't want to ruin the thing trying any harder...any sugestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks - Chris
Get a big pair of water pump pliers or a strap wrench and get a hold of the dist. below the belled our area and give it a twist, either way. I assume you have removed the hold down bolt and clamp. Once it rotates, it should come out fairly easier.
If it has as many miles as I think it probably does, then it may be stuck pretty good. I would shoosh it with some WD-40 and let it sit for about 2-3 hours....Then try it again. It will be hard to remove....VERY hard to remove. I have, in the past, actually taken a flat head screw driver to it and actually pried the dizzy up that way. Not exactly the best way to do it, but it usually works. The downfall is that when it doesnt work, it will usually break the screw driver, and sometimes will break the dizzy.
I like the Idea of the wd40...perhaps even some terpentine might break it loose...i just didn't know how safe that was to spray that kinda stuff in that area of the engine....I have already tried prying it with a big screw driver but I'm going to put some wd40 on it now and try prying again later today...thanks for all your all help - chris
its now a few hours later and the WD worked wonders on that thing...i couldn't budge it before...i put a little WD on it like you all said and out pop'd my distributer...thankyou very very much- chris
