No Spark need help

1977 F250 460 CI Auto.
The truck turns over fine but won't fire. When you let of of the key it seems like it fires just a hair. It is getting fuel, and I have changed/tested the Modual, coil and Solinoid, but no luck. It died a few times yesterday when I would let of the gas and turn. Today It started right up then Died suddenly. Then it would start, but not idle, now nothing. Any suggestions would be great.

Is the carb delivering fuel ok? Also, check the timing.

Some of these symptoms sound like the ground may be bad in your distributor or you may have a broken wire in the distributor pickup wiring either internally or externally. Try replacing the pick up module in the distributor with a known good unit.

Gracie, since it wants to fire when you release the key, I think it's a bad ignition switch. They are cheap and easy to replace. Good luck.

start at the spark plugs and work your way back, ground out a plug and see if it is sparking, if thats all good, move back t othe coil, check the connections, when i put my tach in i lost good connection in the coil, could be important to check.

No Spark need help

My '79 had a problem. You would turn the key to start and it would start. As soon as you let go of the key and it returned to the on position, it would die. Somehow it was loosing connection. I got the truck back from my dad and the ingintion cylinder was turned. As soon as I turned the cylinder back to where it belonged, it quite dying. Don't know if that has any relevance to anything but once I got that cylinder turned back, a lot of my problems went away. My blower motor started blowing, my right interior blinker light started blinking, and it quit dying as soon as the starter stopped. Just thought I'd throw it ur way.

'83 f100 "The Ford" (my first)
