Replacing Rotors... or TRYING!

How the @#$@$#*$ do you get the rotor seperated from the hub on one-piece auto-locking front ends?? Are the studs just there, or are they assembled somehow? I *need* to replace my rotors today. Please help

you need you drive the lug studs out of the rotor/hub. you can drive them out with a hammer and pull the new ones in with a lugnut and a spacer or a stack of washers.
be sure to grease the stud threads so they don't gall when you are pulling them in.

if you don't have a set of studs, its best to buy a rotor/hub combo.

Too late for a rotor/hub combo, I already got the rotors

I have to get a stud out before I can find out if autozone has a set, right?

it would help to make SURE they are giving you the right studs, but it is a pretty common stud if everything is stock.

I compared the ones I just bought to mine, the threads are the same and the length of the threads are the same. The only difference is the tip. Mine has a 1/4" blank section, theirs don't.

The studs are the EASY part, an air chisel with a blunt end on it makes easy work of removal and insertion, now pressing that damn ABS sensor out and onto the new hub without damaging it, now that is a challenge.

Yes....its all doable....but I said ***** on that, and went with a set of Raybestos PG Plus rotor/hub assemblies.

It came with new lugs, and the ABS tone ring was already installed.....made the job go MUCH faster for like only a few $$ more in total cost!

I made exactly the same mistake as ubermich, In hindsight I would have happily paid a LOT of extra money to save myself the trouble of that job, did the new hubs come with races already pressed in? And I would assume they were std dana 44 and would accept an auto locking hub. I bought the Raybestos PG Plus Rotors only, I was told the hub/rotor combos were for 2wd only applications by my locals parts store.

Yes the PG Plus hub/rotor assembly does come with new outer bearing races already installed...and will work on broncos that originally had manual locking hubs and have since converted to manual ones......standard Dana 44.

If I looked hard enough I know I could find the paperwork from when I did mine, but if you just search around a bit you should have no problem finding them. I think I even bought a set from Pep Boys once......and I know you can order them from Rock Auto.
