Cool Neighbor Problem

My neighbor waters his grass almost every other day, and my truck in my driveway gets soaked each time. Doesn't matter where I park it on my driveway, it gets wet.

I've seen where he's wiped off the water on my truck from the towel swirl marks on the windows and body, which is 100% fine and neighborly by me. I've even come out of the house and seen him drying off my truck, he apologized and I helped him dry the rest of the truck off.

But recently he lets his sprinkler fly, and my truck ends up all wet. We've got hard water, and as soon as it dries, there are water spots all over my dark gray truck, making it look like crap.

Well, after about 3 of his waterings, I went over and politely asked him to come over and tell me he's going to water his lawn, and I'll move my truck so he doesn't have to wipe it down. He told me he'd be sure to do so, and I figured the problem was solved.

Well, he's never told me when he's about to water his grass, and he's stopped wiping down my truck since I asked him to come over and tell me! I talked to his wife last week, and she said that she'd remind him to tell me next time.

It seems she didn't tell him because twice this last week I've come out to a dripping wet, or water spotted truck.

What should I do? Am I being a little petty about this considering it's only water? This guy keeps his vehicles immaculately clean, so I'm sure he knows what a PITA waterspots are.

I'd be a little ticked off too as I hate my truck looking like crap. Especially if I put a few hours into cleaning it all up. But, my neighbors are more than aware not to screw with my baby.

I know this is wrong, but, if I had already asked him politely to tell you, which isn't asking much, I'd wait until the next time he washes his up, get it nice and shiny, then I'd dump a bucket of water on it and tell him you were just returning the favor and making sure he didn't miss a spot.

To me this guys sounds kinda ****, so you may not even have to do that to **** him off. Little things **** **** people off. I know, I'm one of them. There's always little ways to aggrevate him. It's jsut finding the right button to push to get your point across and not cause a direct confrontation. I'd let my dog take a dump on his lawn and tell him that he messed up my property so I'm doing the same.

Hmm, considering our chihuahua poops peanuts, that won't draw much attention.

How about me doing some low level boming mid-day in his yard, think that'll get the point across?

Why don't you go buy him a sprinkler that will not allow your truck to get wet...or at least adjust his for him.

I don't think it's worth starting a war with the guy. Buying him a new sprinkler is a good idea. Or...Try to catch him the next time he starts to water and help him to adjust the thing properly. In any case, I'd have a talk with the guy.

I'd blame the community's developer and sue. It's their fault for building houses six inches from each other. Just kidding of course but then that is a pet peeve of mine.

Since the mexican poodle won't draw any pooping attention......

Then you,(Yes I said you) go over and poop on the guys lawn. That should draw plenty of attention & word will get around. "Don't mess with that Munkey feller. He'll poop on your lawn if you do". Read his Sunday Morning paper while your doing the job. Why not? The paper will be right there within reach.

There is a legal saying that my rights end at the tip of your nose. In your case that means...That your neighbor’s rights end where your property begins...and he has no right to spray water on your truck or property! Because your neighbor is aware that his sprinkler is hitting your truck and refusing to correct the problem, your neighbor is responsible for any damage including aesthetically, it causes including the cost of having someone come to your house and power wash your truck for you. You should send a cert letter to the neighbor and give them another opportunity to fix it. Do you have an association that you could contact? Also check out local ordinances related to water use.

He sounds like an okay guy, since he started out wiping your truck down for you and you were able to talk to him about the problem without getting an attitude back. He apparently just sucks on the follow-through. Rather than start a war with guy that could turn messy and lead to stress and more problems for you, I'd try talking with the guy again before doing anything rash. Make him aware of your unhappiness with the situation and try to work it out between you. You may feel like crapping on his lawn (or his hood) but that would only give satisfaction for short time...then the gloves would come off. Going to war with someone who lives right next door is not a fun situation to be in, and I would avoid it at all costs.

I'm not sure that I would be so kind. Yes, it's a 'kinder, gentler' America, but, enough is enough.

I'd speak to him, one more time, just to say that I tried.
Next, I'd start pilin' up the sandbags, and bring out the mount for 'ole Ma Deuce.
(Just for those that don't know what that is, it's the M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun.) (Just kiddin'.)

It has been said that 'good fences make good neighbors' or something to that effect.
Let him know that you are a patient man, but, that he is bordering on being a hemorhoid and that you'd appreciate him stop hosing your truck, and, how would he like it if he and his vehicles were subjected to the same lack of respect.
You MIGHT just shake him into respecting you and your property.

Good luck!!!

i think the best way to deal with this problem is to help him set adjust the sprinkler heads so they will only hit his lawn.

Ask him to look in to the use of soaker hoses along the driveway. They do a great job of watering and do not spray upward and waste water.

What kind of sprinklers? Spray heads, impulse (like the old Rainbird style,) or rotors (the ones that turn slowly with a single long stream)?
