Using my 4WD
I have never had a 4WD truck with locking hubs. How do I use them?
If I understand my owners manual, I can go into 4WD by coming to a stop and shifting my stick to 4Lo or 4Hi and going or by doing the same process and also locking the front hubs.
Also, the owners manual suggests periodically locking the front hubs and driving the truck without shifting into 4WD. Why? Does'nt the whole assembly lubricate when I am driving anyway?

when you shift your transfer case into high or low, your engaging the driveshaft that goes to the front differential, but your hubs are not engaged at this point.
because you have locking hubs, you then need to lock those in also, this locks everything so that the power is transfered to the front wheels also. you can have the transfer case in high or low,but if your hubs are not locked in, no power goes to them, they just roll with the vehicle like a 2 wheel drive.your owners manual is correct in that locking the hubs and driving very slow a short distance is a good idea, it lubricates the workings inside your hubs and such.
not a bad idea to crawl under your rig and read the section about 4 wheeling and the related parts, this may help you get an idea of what is going on under you while your out wheelin around, youll know what parts are in motion.
hope this helps.
