I have a 1987 bronco II 2.9.Engine would run fine when cold but when it warmed up it would misfire and blow black smoke. Checked for codes and it turned out to be evp solenoid. I then changed it twice also plugs cap and rotor egr valve oxygen sensor all new vac harness checked for loose wires and still had same problem. Next I swapped in an 89 ecm which does not need input from egr system. truck runs much better still just a little rich but it is usable . I do not think converter is locking in 4th gear but i have been living with that. I would like to solve this problem. My guess is that I have a bad wire to evp solenoid but am not sure how to check this . Have purchased chiltons manuel and have wiring diagrams. The only thing I can think to try I is cut wire right after ecm an run new ones to evp solenoid . Any ideas anyone ???????????? <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_254163--><!-- THE POST -->
have also tryed several ect sensors same problem run rich when warm . I have not tryed swaping act or map sensor. any ideas post them and I will try them
Put 86 ECM back in truck does run better with this unit. Drove it for about 15 miles with no trouble then right before getting home when applying brake and slowing for a corner engine surged and almost stalled twice. Drove another 5min truck did it one more time. Brought back home and scanned for codes key on engine running. Scanner went through checks and found no codes.
No codes . Today I stoped at salvage yard and picked up another ecm from an 86 put it in and drove truck about 30 minutes seems fine hope that was problem. Some 86 broncos had egr valves some did not ??? I checked the year on drivers doors. I got new unit from one that had egr. what would it mean if scanner gave me pass 11 code.
11 is a "system pass" code. Basically it means the computer didn't see a problem for that portion of the test. In the absence of any other code, you should always be able to get pass codes, which was the purpose of my previous question. No codes at all is, in itself, a fault condition that should be investigated. It sounds like you may have got the problem resolved. Do you get all pass codes from the new computer?
