very easy to do.

i took out brake line that was leaking, measured it, went to local auto parts store, with line and fittings, and matched new line/lines up.

if you need to bend them you can use your hands.

they have stock lengths and you may need to connect two lines for longer lengths, i did.

ask parts man for help so you get matching parts.

it is optional to tape line as you bend to old line to keep shape.

you need someone to help bleed brakes. soak bleeders with power blaster or something.

write if you need more help.

Welcome to Ford-Trucks!

I would pick up a spring tubing bender to bend the brake lines, it helps them keep thier shape. If the car parts store doesn't have one then try the hardware store, I saw a set in Home Depot last week. They are real easy to use.

As for bleeding the brakes, start with the bleeder furthest from the master cylinder and work your way closer. They do make 1 man bleeder kits if you don't have someone to help. Let us know if you need instructions on how to bleed them.

Cheers,
Popa Tim

popa-tim-

in most cases i use a tube bender on brake lines, but on the main f150 lines they are almost all straight with very little bends.

i found i did not need to use one.

on some you may have to use a bender

I had a line go out in my 93 F150 last week. Just as I pulled in a parking lot the pedal bottomed out, that was after 3 hours of highway and county road driving (thankful I went to church last week!).

The line I had to replace was the one that ran from the right front to the left front.

A fair amount of bending and some time with the double flairing tool. You could run it with two separate lines if you don't want to flare the lines yourself and just put a coupler in-between. The fix ran about $10.00 with fluid. It took about 2 hours total.

The hardest part-
Cracking open bleeder valves that hadn't been open in a while (6 point socket and PB Blaster got it).

Be careful not to cross-thead the fittings!

Paul

brake lines

well of course i got into it w/ all your help... i fixed the leak w/ line from napa. & of couse the next weakest section blew. fixed that, & next spot went. needless to say i have all new brake lines. done in the driveway no less. that sucked but napa had a great selection of lines. fittings , & the tools you all suggested. normally i wouldn't napa my money as they are pricey as hell, but i have to say i got this done for under $150. try paying a garage that for the work done. 1 bit of advice i'd offer--- DO NOT ask the wife to help in the bleeding process. pay the garage to do the job. it's cheaper than the lawyer you will need for the divorce. thanks alot guys .

Hey guys, just to add something. someone mentioned the one-man brake bleeder kit. I bought one last week and did my other car. Hand vacum pump w/ adaptors and 4oz. filler cup thing. I seem to be always by myself on all past cars over the years. It cost about 60 bucks but all worth it. Pump at each end, and move on. Can also use the vacum pump for testing vacum stuff as well. You only get one chance to open up/loosen brake lines, and bleeders. Thats the pain part....

Get R Done before winter.... Doug

Talking

I bought that brake/vacum kit a CarQuest auto part store. Napa should also have it as well. Or Summit/Jegs mail catalog will have a kit.

I always get stuck waiting for a friend/family member to get stuck w/ job. I am not married- good or bad dont know.

That reminds me of my parents arguing all the time each time to hook up the camper or back in the rig. lol.

Doug.
