Shifting problem?? Need some help...

I have an 01 SD 250 with the 5.4 auto tranny...

The last few days it has been shifiting erradicly(sp) I will be going along at say 35 mph turning about 1500 rpms and it will suddenly shift down with no increase in throttle from me..

What gives??? Do I have a sensor problem or something else.

The only thing I have done to the rig in the last few weeks was put a differant exaughst system on it.

PLEASE ADVISE!!!

Chk the wiring to the VSS sensor mounted on the rear diff, you might have disturbed it.
or it maybe going bad .

clean the dirt off around the area before removing, you don't want any of that dirt falling into the gear area.

Thanks Rich,

Is that the only sensor on the rear diff? Is there anything I should look for besides the obvious? (unplugged, ripped etc)

Besides the obvious broken wires loose connection.no but if you pull the sensor out of the rearend and it is covered in gray particles of metal think about a fluid change soon.you can get a new sensor pretty cheap! might as well have one in your hand before removing.

Man, how do you unplug that thing???

I want to make sure I am looking at the right plug. In the front center of the rear diff is a black flat plug that has wires in it that go to the front of the truck. Am I on the right one?

your on the right one, take a flashlight or lead light .should be a little locking tab to release the plug.

Ok,

I checked the plug, it was nice and tight and it looks brand new inside, can not see any problem there......

Anything else?
