Engine-driven welder

Do any of you guys know if there's someplace around Wichita or KC that sells used equipment, like an engine-driven welder/generator mounted on a trailer? Brother, brother-in-law, and I have some projects to work on.

Call the local welding shops and check the clasifides and auction anouncements. Theya are always in there. I have been kicking around getting one for the shop but just can't justify it yet.

Sounds pretty cool....I've got a 302 that's going to be loose in a bit. How the heck do you attach a 302 to a welder though?

if you can find a gas powered welder/gen with a bad engine it can't be too hard. The ones i have looked at use a rubber spider coupler to attach motor to gen. I might even have a coupler around the shop that would bolt up to a 302!!!

Here's an idea to bounce off you guys...how big a deal would it be to hook up an air compressor too? Make a trailer that has pretty much everything--welder, generator, compressor, toolboxes, etc.

Seems like it would be pretty easy with an A/C compressor, well switch, and a tank and you would be good to go!! BTW, if ya find a welder minus the motor I have a couple running VH4D Wis-Con (formerly Wisconsin engine) that you could have. If I dig hard enough I could even get you a govener, elec. ign., and a few other goodies so it will be perfect. That's the same engine they use on them anyway.

Actually I was thinking of finding a belt-driven compressor and mounting it alongside the engine....what CFM rating does an a/c compressor have?

Not sure but my dad and I made a simalar set-up on his old 74 cheby. We had a 15 or 20 gal tank in the bed and it kept up with me running my 3/4" impact on the loader tires. If your looking for an air compressor like what they use on big trucks to run air brakes you could be looking at some sserious coin!!

No, just thinking of the usual home or small shop compressor with belt drive. Just replace the 5 HP motor with a 302.

An old AC compressor is easy because there are usually engine mounts to put it on the front of the engine without building brackets if using a vehicle motor. Just add a manual switch to the clutch and you are good to go. I don't know what PSI they pump, but a pressure switch could also be wired in.

Husker, I used a well pump switch and had it set around 120psi, I'm sure there are better setups out there one could use but hey, it worked lol
