I'm thinking I'd like to replace the old granny 4-speed, it's an NP435, that was original equip. in my 65 F250 with one of these new Tremec's, but I'm not knowing enough about them to buy intelligently.
For instance, there's a 6-speed out of a Viper on E-Bay for cheap but I haven't a clue if that'll fit my bellhousing. I see a few Tremec's listed for Chevy applications, most are Mustang which is at least Ford related, but that's mostly small block stuff and I've got a big block FE in the old bomb.
I guess the $64 question is about the 4 bolts that mount the trans to the bellhousing. What pattern does an NP435 have and do these new Tremec's fit it?
If anybody can give me a quick course on Tremec's I'd appreciate it. Thanx.
Some further internet searching. Apparently Tremec's come in 2 flavors. Muncie (GM) and old toploader bolt pattern for Fords. Well that's good to know.
But does anybody know if an NP435 has the old toploader pattern? Methinks not. That NP is a big ol' sob. But I do know there are bellhousings out there to mount a toploader behind an FE.
A new bellhousing could lead to clutch issues tho, and I wish I knew! LOL!
Thank you. There was some good bell info there. From what I read truck bellhousings are a 1/2 inch deeper and shouldn't be used with a David Kee toploader, which would seem to suggest trucks did in fact have the toploader bolt pattern.
Tremec's have 3 different input shaft lengths available so the only problem there is which one do I need? LOL!
