Thumbs up Vehicle Theft Protection

I have an 02 SD 4X4, a sticker in the window says VTP Vehicle Theft Protection. There's also a cable coming up from under the dash below the steering wheel that has "VTP" on it, the connection looks just like the computer diagnostic connection a technician would use to access my computer etc. It also looks like some kind of card would slip into it. Does anyone have this on their truck? how does it work?

Thanks....

I think that your talking about a dealer installed flat-plug security system. They use a type of "chip" looking key, that you insert into the slot to enable the car to be started. Dealers use to use these as a "scam", and for lot security because they're really cheap and easy to install, they simply splice into the starter wire. Then they would try to sell the system to consumers as a "security system" add-on with a considerable mark-up. These things were junk. If the car buyer didn't want it the dealer simply installs a bypass jumper and the systems deactivated. I would ask your dealer about it to make sure.
