I have a 1973 F100 with 302 and 3 speed on the colom. Will a (light) 4 speed (on the floor) 3 speed over drive from a 1978 F150 with a 302 slip right into my 73 or is there additional work to do.

New at it Thanks

drive shaft may be to long or to short, but other than that it should all fit.

The 302 has an 335 series small block bellhousing pattern. You would want to find an 4 speed transmission with the 335 series bellhousing pattern. 300 I6, 302 V8, 351W V8 shares the same pattern.

If you find a car/truck with the engine stated above and you see a 4 speed, you've hit the mother lode.

Hope this helps.

Actually Jerm, The 351C,351M,400 are the 335 series engines.

The 289,302,351W,300I6 share the V-90 series engine bolt pattern for the tranny.

Eh? I thought the 335 series was the 289, 302, 351W? Ergh, why can't Ford kept it simple!

So what 289,300 I6, 302, 351W belongs to? Just the 90 degrees V8s?

The 221,260,289,302,Boss 302,351W are in the V-90* engine series,
The I6 obviously is not a V-90*,it just shares the same Transmission bolt up pattern

Just to set the record straight guys, the 351c (not the 351m)of the 335 series engines uses the small block bellhousing pattern and motor mount patterns. And a note on the 3spd manual overdrive, be very wary as these were notoriously weak trannys, many developed problems with as little as 60k to 70k miles.
