It hadn't previously occurred to me but I got to work this morning and for the first time in a long time I could smell the dust burning off the elements in the furnace. It was the first day it got cold enough for the heat to kick on. Coincidentally it is also the first day of fall, the equinox when we will have equal time of dark and light. From here on out the days will get short and it will be 3 months before we start back toward the never ending summer days. It's usually about now that I start preparing for winter. Time to blow out the sprinklers, drain the hoses and put all the lawn tools away. Happy fall to all!
Furnace, no way, i refuse to let mine turn on until october!! but that said, yup the leaves are starting to turn, some mornings in the 40's already harvested the bulk of the pumpkins, yup falls here!
Thanks, Ivan. Most of my kinfolk are out of Southeast Texas and headed up here. Since last I looked, though, Rita will be on their tail all the way...
Me too. There's 30 at my son's house and 6 at my daughter's. The roads from Houston going north are so packed that some relatives have elected to go west.

My father called last night - four lanes of traffic, all stop and go for a little ways, then stop again for awhile. He said there was plenty of road rage to go around. Luckily he made it through there when he did...I hear it's getting worse now.
A 100 degrees eh, geez.
It gets to about zero here righ tnow at night. The leaves turned last month,
makes for some nice pictures thats for sure.
were well into fall, didnt have much of a summer. Perhaps a nice cold winter with lotsa work, that'd be nice.
Stay safe Texans, good luck.
I will probably turn the ac off in about a month. I hope so the electric bill is outrageous. The cool thing is with four computers running in the house I average running the heat 3 days a year.
