I have a 03 F450 on startup engine will not hardly pull its self. No acceleration until warm. Then it runs fine. I'm getting no codes and no service light.
Our local dealship hasn't got a clue, They have another one in their shop doing the same thing.
To trouble shoot something, it's best if you know how it works!
Ok.. I'm not an expert, but I think I read something about how the turbo is not allowed to spin up if the engine temp, or a combination of temperature sensors for air intake, manifold, and exhaust or some such don't provide correct signal to the ECU. Code or no code, that's the circuitry I'd start with. These trucks can't get out of their own way if the turbo isn't spinning properly. So, in the cold engine tests, there must be step to test for the % or angle of the vanes in the turbo as throttle is applied. That might tell a lot.
Unfortunately, Diesel mechanics, that have worked on the "mechanics" of an engine, are now having to become blind technicians using computers to 'tell them' what's wrong. Furthermore, to be proficient, they're also having to become electronics technicians. Years ago if you show'd a schematic to a diesel mechanic he'd look at you with that deer in the headlight look and ask, "Is that dark line in the middle of the page the road to the lake?"
