Often I get a peek under the hood of a nicely restored old Truck and notice an "Other Than Ford" (OTF), Engine has been installed. One Guy on this site found a Buick engine installed in his truck by the PO. Someone else had a 500CI Cadillac motor in his F100. This cross manufacturer mixing is not my personal preference but I gotta say them C%$#@, and D&^*% motors sure look like they fit nicely. And I'm glad these Guys are saving the bodies. Opinions/Comments anyone?

A buddy of mine would tease me by putting a for sale sign in his 58 and drive it to work. One day I finally was going to make him an offer. I looked under the hood and found a Dodge 383 with a Torqueflite. Sorry offer retracted. Give me $20 and I'll tow it away for parts is what I told him. He still hasn't sold it.
That Dodge 383 was a monster motor back in the 60s. The 737 transmission is about a tough as they come. Add the beauty of a classic Ford body and in my opinion you have a winning combination. I have owned a lot of vehicles, fords, Chevy's, Dodge, hell I even owned a Jaguar (with a 350 Chevy). Raced a 57 Ford with a 327 Chevy. It doesn't matter what company provides the power as long as the installation is engineered properly and the mechanical work is professional. I have seen those little Chevy motors in Ford trucks and I swear they look like they should have been installed by old Henry hisself! The main thing for me is preserving these beautiful old Ford trucks. Hell we can always put the right engine back in there if we really want to. But if we have lost the body then it's gone for good.

If the fords were meant to have ch*vy engines they would have come from the factory w/them in them, if the distributor ain't in the front, straight up and down u don't want it in there(exception of course being the 292and 6 cyl.) if it ain't got ford stamped on the block, u dont want it. keep it tried true and ford blue. sorry to ramble, i hate it when some one ruins a ford by putting an OTF motor in it. just makes me hot under the collar.
friggin traitors, if it ain't true blue, it ain't ford. the engine makes the truck. it doesn't matter what the grille says, if FORD ain't stamped on the block, it ain't a friggin FORD!
Has A FORD Drivin You Lately?
When the Beast realizes it only has a 4-cyl, we're gonna have probs!
I'll race, wrench, drive and crash them all. I think that all of the big auto makers made some good cars and trucks. But when you go messing with Ford trucks and put another brand motor into them, you remove what made Ford trucks so tough, the drivetrain.
Any cheesehead can make a body that last a few years. But designing a drivetrain that will take everything you throw at it, and more, and do for 200,000 or even 300,000 miles, thats a different story. It came out a Ford, keep it a Ford, or send it to the junkyard.
John W,
Why is it that when I go to the Slick-Sixty's site ( http://www.clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/fordpickups61to66fseries ) do I have to be a member to view the photos of the trucks????

Being of the purist slant myself, I can't see putting OTF engines in our trucks. There are so many Ford engines that will just bolt in to these models, that any need for performance or economy can be met with a stock appearing upgrade. I am much more impressed if I see a truck with upgrades that look just like ole Henry would have done, rather than just another old body with a chevy motor..The day will come when these trucks and those who like them will be few and far between. Maybe then would be the time to explore other motor choices, just to keep a few on the road.
